Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh officiating UTM-Ericsson Innovation Centre for 5G


17th December 2016 – Minister of Higher Education (MOHE), Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh had officiated Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)-Ericsson Innovation Centre for 5G (IC5G) at UTM Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The grand officiating ceremony was attended by many high-rank officers from UTM, MOHE as well as Ericsson. IC5G is the brainchild of collaboration initiative between WCC and Ericsson that begun as a joint-research work towards developing strong competitive edge in the new digital economy.  Ericsson’s sponsorship comes in the form of direct investment and in-kind investment to support research for the IC5G project. The centre will features 5G innovations showcase, a 5G research laboratory and a 5G learning space. Datuk Seri Idris, while officiating IC5G, applauded UTM for its collaboration with Ericsson. Earlier, Mr Todd Ashton who is the president of Ericsson Malaysia and Sri Lanka had exchanged Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UTM vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Wahid Omar. UTM-Ericsson IC5G is the first Ericsson university partnership in Southeast Asia and the first 5G innovation centre in the Asia Pacific region.
